About

FirstMeetup is a practical guide to meeting someone new in person, safely and well. That could be a new friend from an app, a group you found online, a friend of a friend, or a first date. We cover all of them equally: this is not a dating site.

Who it is for

Adults who are about to meet someone new face to face for the first time and want to feel prepared: what to check before, where to meet, what to talk about, how to leave if it is not working, and how to follow up if it is.

What we cover

  • Safety: Checklists and red flags for meeting someone new in person: public places, telling a friend, getting home on your own terms and leaving gracefully.
  • Ideas: First meetup ideas and conversation starters for new friends and dates, from a daytime coffee to an activity that takes the pressure off.
  • Hosting: How to host a small group meetup: choosing a public place, inviting people, keeping everyone comfortable and wrapping up well.
  • Etiquette: The unwritten rules of meeting new people: being on time, cancelling politely, following up and saying no kindly.

Editorial standards

  • Facts are checked against official or primary sources, and we link to them.
  • Every article shows when it was published and when it was last updated. Prices, schemes and dates carry a “last checked” note.
  • Safety advice is practical and cautious: meet in a public place, tell a friend, keep your own way home, and leave whenever you are uncomfortable.
  • No paid placements. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labelled.
  • We do not invent statistics, quotes, testimonials or venues. If something cannot be verified, we leave it out.

Who is behind FirstMeetup

FirstMeetup is published by the team that makes MeetNow, a free app for meeting people in person at public places. Some articles mention MeetNow and end with a short box about it. Read our disclosure for details.
